Graffiti Removal and Repainting in Vancouver: How We Restored a Business Owner's Curb Appeal in One Day
The call came in at 7 AM. By 4 PM, you couldn't tell anything had happened.
The call came in at 7 AM. A business owner in Vancouver - a small retail shop on a high-traffic street - had arrived to open up and found graffiti across the front of the building. Large, spray-painted tags across the stucco facade and the painted wood trim.
By 4 PM, you couldn't tell anything had happened.
The Response Process
Speed matters for commercial graffiti removal. Every hour the graffiti is visible, it signals to the neighborhood that the property isn't being maintained - which invites more vandalism. We were on-site by 9 AM.
The first step is surface assessment: what substrate are we working with, what type of paint was used, and how long has it been on the surface. Stucco is porous and absorbs spray paint quickly - the longer it sits, the deeper it penetrates. The tags had been there overnight, which meant chemical treatment was necessary before any mechanical removal.
The Removal and Repair Process
We applied a graffiti removal chemical to the stucco sections, allowed it to dwell, and then pressure washed at low pressure to lift the paint without damaging the stucco texture. The wood trim required a different approach - chemical treatment followed by light sanding to remove any remaining pigment before repainting.
Color matching is the part most people don't think about. The existing paint on the stucco was a custom color that had been on the building for several years - meaning it had faded. We took a paint chip to a local supplier, had the color spectrophotometrically matched, and tinted the new paint to match the faded original rather than the original formula. The result was seamless.
What the Business Owner Said
'I was expecting to see a patch. There's no patch. It looks like it never happened.' That's the goal. Graffiti removal done right isn't just about removing the paint - it's about restoring the property to a condition that doesn't advertise that it was vandalized.
